Palo Alto maker of simulation software that safety-tests AI robots around people; $12.2M seed

Startup · No humanoid status · Robotics leader · Palo Alto, California, United States · Founded 2025 · safeworld.ai

Profile

SafeWorld makes safety-testing software for AI-driven robots rather than robots of its own. Robots run by generative AI models are less predictable than hand-coded ones, so it tests them in simulation: it rebuilds a site, such as a blind corner in a factory, inserts the customer's robot running its real software, and runs thousands of scenarios with simulated people who walk, carry boxes, crouch or trip. Teams can set up tests in a browser and rerun them after each software update. Co-founder Ding Zhao directs Carnegie Mellon University's Safe AI Lab and previously worked at Google DeepMind; CEO Kyle Wong previously founded and ran Pixlee. Gritt Robotics, which builds robots for solar-farm construction, is working with it, and Anyware Robotics is quoted as a user; the company says it also works with several Fortune 50 enterprises, which it has not named. It came out of stealth on Oct 5, 2026 with a $12.2M seed co-led by Shine Capital and a16z speedrun.

Notes Included although it makes safety-testing software rather than robots. Palo Alto is the dateline of its launch release and the location on its a16z speedrun page; The Robot Report described it as based in Oakland, California. The founding year comes from the a16z speedrun page only.
