Profile
Generative Bionics is a spinout of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), founded in July 2024 by IIT researchers led by CEO Daniele Pucci, and it builds on two decades of IIT humanoid work: iCub, ergoCub and the flying iRonCub. In December 2025 it raised €70M led by CDP Venture Capital's AI fund, with AMD Ventures, Duferco, Eni Next, RoboIT and Tether, and about 70 IIT engineers joined. It showed its Gene.01 humanoid as a concept at CES 2026 and unveiled a working version in July 2026: a robot covered in sensing skin that detects touch, proximity, force and temperature, with its robot model released as open source. Fincantieri is working with it on a humanoid welder for shipyards, with first deployment planned for early 2027, and Eni signed a memorandum on Sep 30, 2026 to explore inspection and teleoperation uses at its plants. It employs about 110 people and expects to open pre-orders in the second quarter of 2027.
Notes Founded in July 2024; began operating in January 2026. It raised €70M; the USD figure (about $81M) is an approximate conversion.
